Nominator's project description
| Professor Alvarez-Gaumé is one of the world-leading scientists in mathematical physics. In particular, he became famous by his outstanding contributions in the field of quantum field theory and superstrings. His work on anomalies belong to the most fundamental contributions to mathematical physics during the last twenty years. He is one of the persons who opened theoretical partical physics for modern mathematics, such as differential geometry and topology. This symbiosis between physics and mathematics is nowadays a firm ingredient in many areas, and largely influenced recent developments both in physics and mathematics. |
